I said aloud those words I resist each year. My spouse and I were looking at our family calendar and discussing the ongoing dance of managing young children… when we both work… and when school is out for the summer. As our eyes wistfully drifted to that beautiful date on the calendar proclaiming “First Day Of School,” we began to see possibilities. We could finish a sentence! We could get all our work done while the kids are away! We could invest in our children when they’re home!
All this was tempered when I regretfully reminded my significant other: “Yes and we should ALSO mentally block out some time later in the month for when we inevitably get sick.”
Have you ever noticed this phenomenon? It doesn’t matter if you have school-aged children or not. You’ve undoubtedly noticed that when school is back in session, there is a firestorm of illnesses that invade the community.
There are several theories as to why this happens. One is that people have recently been traveling (getting in those last-minute trips before being tied down to a school schedule) and then the confined environment of classrooms provides a perfect petri dish of illness spread. This seems to be a reasonable theory. Another one is that both kids and adults are sleeping less than normal as they adjust their waking/sleeping rhythm from the ease of summer to the early morning demands of a bus route. This also seems quite probable.
Whatever the reason (and there are likely far more than what is listed here), the germ spread following the start of school is frightening and there seems to be little we can do to combat its effects on workplace productivity.
Or is there? Sonlight Cleaning Services has been a commercial cleaning company serving the greater Dallas Fort Worth metroplex for over 30 years. We are leaders in our industry. For example, long before the COVID-19 pandemic wreaked havoc on our world, we were already utilizing the best technology for illness control – e-sanitizing machines – in our business. At Sonlight, we take very seriously the economic and mental impact of a clean work environment. We take very seriously the difference between sanitizing and disinfecting and we know that this time of year, the latter is especially essential to prevent the spread of illness.
