The ball in Times Square has dropped but all eyes are on the rise of the Omicron variant. Cue concern as we watch the curve (which looks more like a vertical line at the moment) sharply climb. It’s safe to say that we all hoped that by 2022 the words coronavirus, pandemic, COVID-19, masks, and social distancing would be long departed from our vocabulary.
There are two approaches at this point. We can tuck our heads and wait for the world to be as it was or we can go on the offense and take proactive steps to keep this virus from dictating our lives.
With disinfecting spray at the ready, Sonlight Cleaning Services is ready to go on the offence against Omicron for your facility. From offices and financial institutions to schools and churches, we have been entrusted with protecting employees, clients, visitors, patients, and students as they continue the brave work of “keeping calm and carrying on” these past two years.
One of the marks of our success in the fight to keep clients safe are two little (yet critical) words: dwell time. Dwell time is the amount of time required by a chemical disinfectant to actually kill the percentage of germs it claims to kill.
Far too often, chemical disinfectants are used to sanitize. If you’re lost at this point, let’s take a step back and review. Sanitizing only lowers the number of germs on a surface whereas disinfecting kills a significant amount of germs on a surface. When it comes to COVID-19, no less than true disinfecting is acceptable.
Disinfecting is a two-step process. First, a surface must be cleaned so that molecules of dust and dirt do not shelter pathogens on a surface from the chemical being applied. Next, the disinfectant is sprayed on the surface and allowed to “dwell” for the amount of time required by that particular product. For example, let’s say a bottle of disinfectant spray says “Kills 99% of germs.” Most people would spray this on a dirty surface, wipe, and assume that the surface has now been disinfected. In reality, they have only removed a portion of the germs on that surface — nowhere near ninety-nine percent.
