Whose Boots Have Your Floors Been Under?

Do you oversee facilities management for a large church, school, business or medical office, industrial building, or financial institution? Were you on the “ground floor,” so to speak, when the facilities were being built? Or do certain buildings (or all of the buildings) predate your tenure in that location? Do you actually know what the original flooring looked like? Even if you think you do, you may want to read on.
I recently overheard a conversation that went something like this…
Person 1: “I had no idea the tile was that color. And the grout is white. I mean bright white. I always assumed it was beige.”
Person 2: “What do you mean? Didn’t you clean it?”
Person 1: “Of course I cleaned it! I know for a fact that it was swept and mopped daily since I started five years ago.”
Person 2: “Then how could you have no idea what color your own floors were?”
Person 1: “They were installed long before I got there. And come to find out, they had never been properly cleaned.”
You see, what happened here is not unusual. A building that was not very old–perhaps less than 15 years old–was cleaned regularly but not professionally. And the facilities manager, having only been there five years, had no idea what the floors looked like when they were first installed. He truly thought the grout was beige when it was actually white! He had no idea that the previous company that leased the building never had the tiles steam cleaned.
At Sonlight Cleaning Services, some of our proudest moments come when we get to see things like this–a customer truly “wowed” by their own facilities. In a few more years, that facilities manager might have gone to the trouble to replace flooring that was actually in terrific shape.
Oftentimes the greenest and most fiscally-responsible solution–contracting Sonlight Cleaning Services for your regular and specialty cleaning needs–is actually the very best solution for your building. A complete flooring replacement would have cost unnecessary money and time (replacing flooring is a huge inconvenience to employees, students, and/or clients).
