There is a small airport near our house that I never paid much attention to until a friend asked, “You haven’t been to the diner yet?” I guess I’ve been out of the loop my whole life on this fact, but many small airports have well-positioned restaurants for watching small planes and jets take off and land. This news was quite welcome in my house because I have young children and — let’s be honest — even as an adult there’s something special about watching planes in flight!

It was with some apprehension that we visited this restaurant for the first time. As we pulled into the parking lot, there was only a small 2×3 sign next to the door indicating that there was anything more than an airport terminal located within. We entered and noticed a door down the hall with the words “Diner” and hours of operation. Little did we know, we had just stumbled into our new favorite Saturday morning spot! 

The food was delicious and reasonably priced. The large floor-to-ceiling windows invited diners to ooh and ahh over the small planes taxiing nearby on their way to the runway. But the thing that impressed us the most? The bathroom. That’s right, the BATHROOM. 

The restrooms were located adjacent to the diner (technically, they were a part of the airport lobby). They were the cleanest restrooms we had ever seen. When my mother — who has worked as a health inspector — went to the airport with us a few weeks later, she made the comment, “You can tell a lot about a business by their bathrooms.”
